We started Sagacent because too many firms thought they were protected, and weren't.

For more than 25 years, from our home base in Silicon Valley, we’ve helped small and mid-sized professional firms run on technology they can count on, and prove it. Here’s how we got here and how we think.

Why we started

When Ed Correia founded Sagacent in 2000, he kept seeing the same thing across small and mid-sized businesses. They believed they were protected. They had an IT provider, security products, backups, a support contract. Then something would go wrong, a failure or a breach or a stretch of downtime, and they’d discover their environment was nowhere near as secure or reliable as they’d been told.

As Ed puts it, too many providers were overpromising and underdelivering. Firms were left exposed, dependent on reactive support, and unclear about where their real risk even was. Sagacent was built to be the opposite of that: reliable, honest about risk, transparent, and accountable. More than 25 years later, that’s still the whole point.

How We Think

Our view is simple, and Ed says it plainly: technology that isn’t moving the business forward has no business being in the business. Every piece of it costs money to buy, money to manage, and introduces new risk. So the goal isn’t more technology. It’s the right technology, run well, and nothing extra.

We’ve also learned that the trouble is usually two things at once. There’s a real technology problem, and there’s a visibility problem. Most firms can’t say exactly what they’re running or where they’re exposed. Risk rarely arrives as one dramatic failure. It builds up over time: access that’s never reviewed, workarounds that become habit, AI slipping into the work before anyone sets the rules. Our job is to make all of that visible, then make it better.

What's stayed the same, and what's changed

Ed brought Sagacent into security early, we made data protection a focus in 2005 and built our security work around the recognized NIST framework long before most small firms were thinking that way. The tools have changed many times since, and AI is the newest chapter, but the constants haven’t moved: explain things in plain language, hold vendors accountable engineer to engineer, and make decisions based on what’s right for the business rather than what’s easiest to sell.

Who we're for

We do our best work with firms that are, in the truest sense, risk-averse: law firms, finance and accounting practices, healthcare, wealth management, and other professional, regulated, high-trust businesses. These are firms that hold something worth protecting and answer to someone who expects them to prove they’re handling it correctly. That’s exactly the kind of work we’re built for.

Our philosophy, in one line

Businesses deserve honest guidance, clear communication, and technology matched to real needs, not unnecessary complexity sold as sophistication. We’d rather help you understand where you stand, decide what matters most, and make smarter long-term decisions. That’s the firm Ed set out to build, and it’s the firm we still are.
