Sagacent Technologies can help you weigh many different internet connection solutions from many different vendors and recommend the top one or two solutions that will best fit your needs. This may include: DSL, T-1, fiber, MPLS, or wireless.
Digital subscriber lines (DSL) deliver broadband all over the United States. Many different internet service providers offer DSL solutions, by using existing phone line infrastructure to deliver high-speed connectivity. Despite using the same infrastructure as dial-up, you are not actually dialing out to establish a connection, so your phone lines will remain free for incoming and outgoing calls. DSL accomplishes this by using a different frequency than voice connections, which also makes it up to ten times faster than a dial-up connection, while still being one of the most affordable internet connection solutions.
T1 connections are also based on a synchronous time-division-multiplexed system. This means that the connection is not only going all the time, but is sending and receiving data all the time. T1 connectivity is symmetrical, meaning that the upload and download speeds are the same. T1 can also carry up to 24 telephone lines to support business PBX systems.
Fiber connectivity transmits data using fiber-optic cables, or tiny strands of plastic or glass, that are bound together and transmit coded signals using pulses of light. This is very different than the way in which DSL or T1 connections work by transmitting electrical information through copper lines. With their unique architecture, fiber connections deliver some of the fastest internet service available today. They are able to transmit binary (digital) data incredibly fast, while still being very reliable.
Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) is a protocol for speeding up and defining digital traffic flows. In order to do this, MPLS sorts and prioritizes the data packets being sent based upon their class of service (voice, video, etc.). The outcome of this is greater reliability for high-priority data streams because less time is spent buffering video and fewer dropped voice calls.
Internet connectivity based on a wireless delivery model is increasingly becoming the standard for many homes and businesses. Wireless service is easy to use and convenient, since it is always ready for mobile devices to connect.
